Our Story

After the war, a few people (who are now part of our board) traveled to the region to check on their remaining family and friends that lived in Tigray. Among the many tragedies they noticed, the starvation of the children around them caught their attention. These people then went to the schools of the area and talked to teachers, and learned that it has been very hard for the students to focus on school or any other activities due to hunger. They learned that some children were even passing out during class and missing school days because they did not have the energy for the commute. In an effort to provide meals for these children, Halyot was born.

HALYOT

HALYOT

Halyot now has 4 locations, 13 employees on site, and provides 1 meal for each sponsored child every morning before they head to school. This way, children can go to school with full stomachs and learn, play, and be children again.

Our Children

The children of Tigray have gone through many unimaginable tragedies in their short lives. The ones that survived the war with no physical trauma have been scarred mentally. Most of them have also had their families displaced, have had their families’ source of income destroyed, and/or have been orphaned

HALYOT

HALYOT

Of course, Halyot’s ultimate dream would be to provide these children with all the necessary resources that will allow them to be healthy both physically and mentally, and to lead a happy and innocent childhood that every child deserves. However, the first step to that goal is to provide them with their basic needs, starting with food.
